# Interest calculation

This article explains how to configure interest calculation in Sapera, including interest period, interest rate, minimum amount, due-date tolerance and conditions for charging interest.

### Accessing Interest Calculation

1\. From the hamburger menu in the top-left corner of Sapera, open Shop Manager.

2\. Go to Setup → Settings → Accounting → Interest Calculation.

### Aggregate interest per customer per period

Determines whether interest is aggregated per customer or calculated individually per invoice or entry. Aggregation happens within each interest period.

**Options:**

**Yes:** Interest for the customer is combined into one posting per interest period. If several invoices accrued interest in the same period, they become a single line instead of one per invoice. If the calculation covers several periods back, one posting is still created per period, because interest must be booked to the period it relates to.

**No:** Interest is calculated and shown per individual entry/invoice within each interest period.

### Default interest rate

Sets the default interest rate in percent per month, used to calculate interest on overdue payments.

**Example:** 1.5 = 1.5% per month. If the interest period is set to quarter, three monthly interest charges (3 × 1.5%) are applied per calculation.

### Minimum interest amount

Specifies the smallest interest amount Sapera will charge. If the calculated interest is below this threshold, no interest is charged.

### Interest period

Determines how often interest is collected and posted. The rate is always per month; the interest period sets how many months of interest are combined in each calculation.

**Options:**

**Month:** One month's interest per calculation.

**Quarter:** Three months' interest combined per quarter (3 × the monthly rate).

**HalfYear:** Six months' interest combined per half-year.

**Year:** Twelve months' interest combined per year.

### Due date tolerance period in days

Defines how many days of delay Sapera allows after the due date before interest is calculated.

**Example:** 5 = no interest for the first 5 days after the due date.

### Add interest only after first reminder

Determines whether interest is calculated only after the first reminder has been sent.

**Options:**

**Yes:** Interest is added only after the first reminder.

**No:** Interest is added immediately after the tolerance is exceeded, regardless of reminders.

### Exclude Entries Earlier Than Date (dd-mm-yyyy)

Specifies a date before which entries are **excluded** from the interest calculation. Used to limit which historical data is included.

**Example:** 01-01-2023 = all entries before this date are ignored in the calculation.
