# Relation types

Set up and manage the types of relations that can be created between actors in Sapera.

### What are relation types?

Relation types define how two actors can be linked to each other. A relation type describes the connection from both sides and indicates whether it is a one-to-one, one-to-many or many-to-many relation. The types are used when you create relations directly on an actor.

System-defined relation types are delivered with Sapera and cannot be deleted or renamed via the system name. You can, however, edit the display name and the roles on them.

### How to access the screen

From the hamburger menu in the top-left corner of Sapera, open **Financial**. In the left menu, select **Actors** → **Relation types**.

If you cannot see the menu item, you probably do not have permission to access it. Contact support.

### Create a new relation type

1\. Click **New** at the top of the list.

2\. Fill in the fields in the edit form (see the description below).

3\. Click **Save** to save the new relation type.

### Field descriptions

**Display name:** The name shown to users when they select a relation type. The field is mandatory.

**System name:** A unique technical name for use in integrations and configuration. The system name must be unique across all relation types. For system-defined relation types, the field is locked and cannot be changed.

**Left role:** The relation role that describes the first actor's function in the relation. The field is mandatory and is selected from the list of defined relation roles.

**Left cardinality type:** Indicates whether the first side of the relation can have one or many actors associated. The options are **One** and **Many**.

**Right role:** The relation role that describes the second actor's function in the relation. The field is mandatory and is selected from the list of defined relation roles.

**Right cardinality type:** Indicates whether the second side of the relation can have one or many actors associated. The options are **One** and **Many**.
