A serial-number item is an item where each individual unit is tracked by its own serial number. It is typically used for more expensive or warranty-bearing goods — for example electronics, bicycles or machines — where it is important to know exactly which unit was purchased, sold and to whom.

Because each unit is unique, Sapera asks for the serial number at the right moments (for example at receipt and at sale). It places slightly higher demands on registration but in return gives full traceability.
