A serial number item is an item with a unique identification number — for example a frame number on a bicycle or a serial number on a refrigerator. It is especially relevant in workshops and for appliance dealers. Each serial number item is based on a base item that defines which product it refers to.
Navigation
You find the module by opening the main menu (Financial) and going to Product → Serial number items.
1. Go to Product → Serial number items.
2. Click the blue + button at the top.
3. Select which base product the serial number item should be based on.
4. Fill in the fields — at a minimum Serial number (the unique number, e.g. a frame or serial number) and Display name.
5. Click Save.
Serial number item management is not enabled by default. It is activated per product (or product category) via the Requires serial number item setting on the product.
You can also attach files (e.g. a service manual) to a serial number item and choose to have them follow along on quotes, sales orders or invoices.
